Become a CIV Affiliate

Affiliation with CIV is an excellent opportunity to advance your research in the fields of venture and innovation. If you are a scholar, policymaker or a player of the venture ecosystem willing to contribute to academic and applied research in the field, the Coller Institute of Venture invites you to become an international research affiliate.

Affiliation requirements:

We expect our prospective affiliates to be:

  • Academic scholars or players of the field of venture and innovation, who have published at least 2 articles on the subject in one of the CIV publications.
  • Recommended by a member of the CIV team, based on previous successful communication or academic collaboration.

In addition, candidates for affiliation are expected to become CIV online members prior to submitting their application.

Hiro Mizuno – Senior International Affiliate (Japan)
Hiro MizunoHiro Mizuno is an Executive Managing Director and CIO of Government Pension Investment Fund (Japan’s public pension manager with USD 1.2 trillion AUM). Prior to that, he was a partner in Coller Capital. Hiro holds BA of Law from Osaka City University and an MBA from Northwestern University, Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Among his public roles: Executive adviser to Japanese cabinet on health care and medical growth strategy, Japanese cabinet strategic funds integrated advisory board member, Ministry of Education National Universities Evaluation Committee member, Executive advisor to Hiroshima Innovation Platform. In the academic world he is a visiting professor of Kyoto University, Centre of Society-Academia Collaboration for Innovation, advisor to Kyoto University, Centre of iPS stem cell research and applications, guest professor of Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine,  Guest professor of Kindai University, Global Economic Research Centre.

Thillai Rajan A – International Research Affiliate (India)

Thillai Rajan is a Professor in the Department of Management Studies at IIT Madras. Before joining academia, he worked as the Manager of Emerging Technologies Fund, an early stage fund set up by IL&FS Venture Corporation to invest in Information Technology and Biotechnology companies. In 2005, he attended the Chevening Gurukul Program on Globalisation and Leadership at the London School of Economics. In 2008, he was selected for the Endeavour Executive Program at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Sydney. In 2010, he was selected for a Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Fellow at the Harvard University. Since 2009, Thillai Rajan has been publishing an annual report on the Indian Venture Capital industry. Each and every report of the focuses on a specific theme of the industry. He teaches financial management and other related courses in the MBA and other programs at IIT Madras. His areas of research interest include venture capital, private equity, and corporate finance.

Jonathan Yovell – Senior Research Affiliate

jonathan-yovellDr. Jonathan Yovell, holder of a Medical (MD) and business (MBA) degrees, was a CIV affiliate between 2014-2015. Bearing an experience of over 10 years in leading R&D projects and teams in medical device development, healthcare IT and medical informatics, Jonathan specializes in connecting medical knowledge with technology and business goals.
Currently, Jonathan is the VP R&D and Clinical Informatics at AposTherapy, a medical start-up company.

Pedro de Andrade Nunes – Research Affiliate

pedro-nunesA seasoned angel investor, Pedro de Andrade Nunes was a CIV affiliate between 2014-2015. He is currently serving as the UK local ambassador of Building Global Innovators – a partnership between MIT-Sloan, ISCTE-IUL (Lisbon) and MIT-Portugal, a collaboration of the leading 12 engineering and science universities in Portugal.
