Professor Joseph (Yossi) Klafter, President of Tel Aviv University, Israel
Professor Joseph (Yossi) Klafter, President of Tel Aviv University since October 2009 and the eighth one since TAU’s founding in 1956, is widely recognized in his academic field, chemical physics. Since 2002 he has served as the chairman of the Israel Foundation (ISF), the main institution supporting scientific. A Fellow of the American Physical Society among other organizations, Professor Klafter has won many prestigious prizes in his field, including the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Prize, the Weizmann Prize for Sciences, the Rothschild Prize in Chemistry, and the Israel Chemical Society Prize. He also holds an honorary doctorate from Wroclaw University of Technology in Poland. Professor Klafter has been elected foreign member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2011. Professor Klafter chaired the Department of Physical Chemistry at TAU from 1990 to 1992, and again from 1998 to 2002. Concurrently he served as head of the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Institute of Chemical Physics. From 1996 to 2002 he was a member of the academic board of the ISF, heading the exact sciences and technology subject area, and from 2002 onwards he has chaired the board.
Prof. Yoav I. Henis – Vice President for Research and Development, Tel Aviv (TAU)
Dr. Yoav Henis is the former Chair of the Department of Neurobiology (which was then called Neurobiochemistry); he is a Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics and the incumbent of The Zalman Weinberg Chair in Cell Biology at the George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences, Tel Aviv University. In 2012, he was nominated as the Vice President for Research and Development of Tel Aviv University. Dr. Henis has headed for many years grant review committees of the Israel Science Foundation, and served as a reviewer for each of the Israeli granting agencies. He has also served on numerous committees at Tel Aviv University: The Supreme Nominations Committee, and Tel Aviv University Central Steering Committee. He has been a member of the academic Senate of the University since 1995.
Prof. Eli Talmor – founding Chairman of Coller Institute of Venture
Eli Talmor is a Professor at London Business School and founding Chairman of its Coller Institute of Private Equity as well as the Coller Institute of Venture at Tel Aviv University. He was previously a professor of finance at the University of California (UCLA and Irvine), Tel Aviv University and the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and B.Sc. (Cum Laude) from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Professor Talmor is the co-author of International Private Equity, broadly considered as the reference book of the private equity industry. He served on the board of Governors of London Business School and the advisory board of the African Venture Capital Association. In recent years he has been asked by the UK Parliament to provide a leading testimony at its high-profile hearings on private equity and to advise the UK Prime Ministerial office.
Professor Luis Reto, Rector of ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon
Full Professor at ISCTE (2003) holds a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Louvain-la Neuve (Bélgica), in 1991. Since December 2009 Professor Reto is the Rector of ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL). He was the President of this Institute in the years 2005 – 2009 and since 2005 is the President of the Center for the Study of Public and Social Economy – CEEPS/CIRIEC Portugal. Previously, Professor Reto was Director of ISPA (1979-1985), Institute that he founded & chaired, where he also teached during the years 1978/1979 until 1986/1987. He was a visiting Professor at the Brasilian Foundation – Fundação Gertúlio Vargas, Director of the journal – Revista Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gestão, member of Universia (Santander) Administration, member of the Advisory Board of the Confederation of the Portuguese Industry (CIP) and a member of the board of the Portuguese Intituto Camões. Professor Reto has several scientific papers and books published, among which the coordination of the volume Potencial económico da língua portuguesa (Edições Leya, 2012), Porque nos matamos na estrada… e como o evitar, (Editorial Notícias, 2003), Vox Populi (Bertrand, 2002),O Terceiro sector em Portugal: Delimitação, caracterização e potencialidades (Ed INSCOOP, 2001).
Professor Nuno Guimarães, Vice Rector for International Relations of ISCTE-IUL
Nuno Guimarães, PhD in Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering from IST, is currently Full Professor at ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon, Portugal, and Vice-Rector for International Relations and ELearning. He became Full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL) in 2001, where he was the President of the Scientific and Executive Boards (Dean) from 2004 to 2009. He was also a Professor at IST/UTL (92/97), and Invited Professor at the Technische Universität Berlin (2010). He is a senior member of LASIGE (R&D unit at FCUL), was a member of INESC, Lisbon, and a consultant for AT&T Bell Labs, Murray Hill, NJ, USA. He was a Member of the Board of PUUG (Portuguese Unix Users Group), co-founder of Eunet PT, later KPNQwest among others. He was awarded the status of Senior Member of ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) in 2012. Nuno Guimarães has extensive evaluation experience since 1997 in programs such as EU Telematics Programme, Education & Training, PRATIC/INETI and EU FP7 Expert Evaluator.
Professor José Paulo Esperança, Chairman & Co-founder of ISCTE-IUL Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, AUDAX.
José Esperança is full professor of Finance at ISCTE-IUL. He has a broad international experience, having taught and given conferences in Europe, Asia, the USA and several African Countries. He is the chairman of AUDAX an associated center focused on entrepreneurship and family business, since its inception in 2005. He has written and consulted on services and emerging multinationals, small firms’ governance and financing, executive compensation, real options and venture capital. He is an author of numerous scientific publications, namely in Revista Portuguesa de Gestão, Journal of Multinational Financial Management and Journal of Applied Financial Economics. He is a member of the board of the CPADA, the Portuguese Federation of Environmental Associations and has been actively involved in promoting eco-friendly mobility infrastructures.
Roy Wiesner, CEO, Hutchison Kinrot , Israel
Roy Wiesner is CEO of Hutchison Kinrot. In this capacity he leads all new investments by the incubator, oversees ongoing R&D activities and business development of the portfolio companies and serves as a director in these companies. He was previously a partner at the Cross-Border M&A and Capital Markets Department at one of Israel’s prestigious law firms, where he advised entrepreneurs and companies, across various sectors on all aspects of capital raising and strategic transactions, and acted for private equity firms and financial institutions on their early and late stage investments. Prior to that, Roy worked as an associate for leading international law firm Weil Gotshal in New York and Hong Kong, specializing in M&A and Private Equity, and assisted in the establishment of their Hong Kong office. Roy holds an LL.B. from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and a dual Masters of Public Administration (Public and Economic Policy) from the London School of Economics and Columbia University, and is a certified lawyer in Israel and New York.

Ana Brito e Melo, Executive Director, WavEC
ANA BRITO E MELO, Executive Director of WavEC Offshore Renewables since 2012. She initiated her research activities on marine renewable energies in 1993. She is also the Executive Secretary of the International Energy Agency’s Ocean Energy Technology Initiative. Ana holds a Ph.D and a M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering and is graduated in Civil Engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST).
Marco Alves, Head of Numerical Modelling , WavEC
MARCO ALVES, Head of Numerical Modelling team of WavEC Offshore Renewables since 2008. Marco has a degree, master and Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico. He is a specialist for hydrodynamics of wave energy and floating structures, with experience of around 10 years in the field.
Patrik Möller, CEO, CorPower Ocean AB
Patrik is the CEO of CorPower Ocean, a Swedish ocean energy startup bringing a fivefold improvement in wave power efficiency, currently in pilot with Iberdrola Engineering. He is a passionate entrepreneur with experience of building VC-funded technology start-ups from first idea to more than 80 people with multi-national operations. Prior to CorPower he co-founded Replisaurus Technologies, developing tools and processes for printing patterned metal layers used in semiconductor manufacturing. Patrik has a MSc in chemical engineering from Lund Institute of Technology, with scholarship studies at UC Berkeley. He has authored or co-authored more than 10 technical papers and is inventor on more than 20 patents.
Dr. Yaron Toledo, Senior Lecturer at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Tel-Aviv University (TAU), Israel
Dr. Toledo received a BSc and a PhD in Civil Engineering while specialising on the modelling of ocean waves acquiring various distinguished fellowships, prizes and excellence notations. Through his service in the Israeli Navy’s Hydrographic branch he obtained practical experience in underwater acoustics and the East Mediterranean oceanography. Dr. Toledo is currently a senior lecturer in TAU’s School of Mechanical Engineering where he establishes a research group on wave, current and wind interactions. The group’s aim is to combine basic theoretical derivations, numerical modelling and field observations for acquiring a wholesome understanding of the fundamentals of surface wave physics and their manifestation in the Eastern Med. Sea.
João Pedro Gomes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST)
João Gomes received the Diploma, MSc and PhD degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), Lisbon, Portugal, in 1993, 1996 and 2002, respectively. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of IST in 1995, where he is currently an Assistant Professor. Since 1994 he has also been a Researcher in the Signal and Image Processing Group of the Institute for Systems and Robotics, in Lisbon, where he has been involved in the design of underwater acoustic communication and localization systems for several national and European research projects. He presently serves as an associate editor in the IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering. His current research interests include optimization algorithms for single-source and collaborative localization problems, channel identification and equalization in wireless and underwater communications, fast algorithms for adaptive filtering, and sensor networks.
Paulo Felisberto, CINTAL/SiPLAB lLboratory
Paulo Felisberto received the Engineer diploma in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. degree in electronics and computer science. From 1988 to 1991 he was a Field Engineer at the NCR, Portugal. In 1991, he joined the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Algarve, Faro where he is currently an Associate Professor. He is member of CINTAL/SiPLAB laboratory and LARSys associate laboratory. He participated and coordinated research projects in underwater acoustics. His current work is focused on geoacoustics and acoustic thermometry, acoustic environmental monitoring and vector sensor arrays.

Cynthia K. Burzell, Founder of Aequor
Cynthia K Burzell, Ph.D. Microbiology founded Aequor, Inc. in 2006 and serves as President from the Company’s R&D lab in San Diego, California. She received TechAmerica’s 2009 Researcher of the Year for her breakthrough discovery of 17 novel marine microbes, which present remarkable natural antifouling and antibiofilm properties. Dr. Burzell was an Instructor in the Microbiology Department of the School of Medicine at St. George’s University. Expert in the inhibition of pathogenic and marine biofilms, fouling, microbial taxonomy, genetics, and water quality, Dr. Burzell has given presentations at the International Symposium on Microbial Ecology, Annual Caribbean Health Research Council Conference, American Society for Microbiology Biofilms, and the BioMarine Business Convention, and is a member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME).

Prof. Dror Avisar: the Head of Hydrochemistry Laboratory at Tel Aviv University (TAU), Israel
Prof. Dror Avisar, is the Head of Hydrochemistry Laboratory at Tel Aviv University. Prof. Avisar returned to Israel in 2004 after being a postdoc and a lecturer at the University of California Santa Barbara (USCB). On October 2004 Dror was appointed to a tenure track position at Tel Aviv University. Dr. Avisar focuses his research interest on the understanding the physico-chemical processes of the occurrence and transport of micro and nano contaminants within the aquatic environment. Additionally, Dror’s research group is investing lots of efforts to develop and to optimize an innovative technologies to break down and remove these contaminants from various water sources.
Dr. Hadas Mamane: Senior Lecturer at the Engineering School Tel-Aviv University (TAU), Israel
Dr Hadas Mamane is currently a faculty member and a senior lecturer with tenure at the Engineering School, Tel-Aviv University (TAU), Israel. Dr. Mamane is the Head of Water-Tech Laboratory. She returned to Israel in 2005 after receiving her Ph.D. from Duke University and conducted her post-doctoral studies at TAU through a Porter fellowship. On Oct 2007 Dr. Mamane was appointed to a tenure track position, on Sep 2010 she was appointed a senior lecturer and on June 2013 she received tenure. Dr. Mamane’s research focuses on novel technologies for water treatment, with expertise in ultraviolet (UV) and solar disinfection, advanced oxidation technologies (AOP), and water and wastewater characterization.

Mr. Efrat has More than 20 years of experience in managing, including creating new businesses and leading companies in the Hi-Tec, Chemical, Defense and Renewable Energy industries. Throughout his career Zeev has specialized in creating new business from its inception and bringing it to maturity of operation – both in the framework of multinational operations and in the framework of founding and serving as CEO of startups. The essence of Zeev’s contribution is the integration of engineering, marketing and interpersonal communication skills. Prior to joining Aquarius Spectrum, Zeev initiated and established the presence of Frost & Sullivan in Israel in 2006 which became a leading consulting brand in Israel. Rogério Nogueira, Founder and CEO of Watgrid
Rogério Nogueira is the CEO of Watgrid Lda, an award winning technological startup focused on the development of innovative solutions for liquid monitoring. He earned his Ph.D in Physics from University of Aveiro and holds an MIT Sloan Executive Certificate on Management and Leadership. On the academic level he was Professor at Universidade de Aveiro and Instituto Politécnico de Saúde do Norte. He is also Senior Researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações. coordinating several projects financed by national, EU organizations and private companies. Dr. Nogueira is the coordinator of the Technological Platform for Moulds, Vice-president/Co-founder of the Portuguese Optical Society and the Portuguese representative in the International Commission for Optics. He also serves the European Commission has an independent expert for different programs in the FP7 and H2020 frameworks. He also accumulated 5 years of experience in corporate companies such as Nokia Siemens Networks and Coriant, as innovation manager at the Portuguese branch, leading European projects and coordinating the IP departments.
