Coller Institute - our new venture

Below are some of our planned actions we have -- but if you have alternatives and better ideas then please contact us. We want to hear from you. Our plan is to focus on all aspects leading to innovation; the critical elements of venture capitalism and examine how they are evolving to develop sustainable technologies, organisations and business.

  Curiosity - Research - Findings

  The amount written on the subject of venture, its DNA, the mechanics and ecosystems is vast. I sometimes wonder if those writing venture had used their energy in creating venture the economic riddle would be solved.
• Writing is one perspective, reading is another and that is why Venture VOX, our messaging channel will be so critical and useful:
• Credible academics to filter only the best in class global research
• Editorial efficiency to draw out the key findings
• Practitioner commentary to complete the loop and knowledge/technology transfer
• Available in hard copy and key digital platforms

Events at Coller Ins. of Venture

• Annual Flagship Event bringing the best of both practitioner and academic worlds under one roof. This will be a platform not only for the latest research but also for new technology and innovation emanating from universities and corporate venturing.
• Whilst private equity can perhaps be considered as more of a science, attracting practitioners from the relatively narrow focus of banking or consultancy, then venture belongs to a higher echelon (may be this why returns vary much so more than those generated by PE). The skills required to be successful in venture as entrepreneur and investor are broader and our events will reflect this breadth.
• For our Institute to be relevant we must have a global perspective on venture and as part of achieving this position we will host events in a variety of centres, either alone or with selected partners. See more at our events page.

• Awards and Grants



Budding Venture Capitalists

• The Coller Institute of Venture recognises the need to nurture and promote the best ideas and research along the entire spectrum of experience. From those just embarking on their careers to those who are established and recognised.
• For those starting out we will have the Coller  Institute of Venture Budding Award open to PhDs, MBA and undergraduate students. We will need to establish a more formal framework for entry and judging criteria but the winners will be those whose report demonstrates  new insights on venture or develops innovative and disruptive ideas and technology, challenging the status quo and accepted paradigms. In addition to a financial prize, the award will include an opportunity to present at a Coller Ins. event, publication and coverage in Venture Vox .
• Additionally we will establish Coller Institute Corporate Venture Award to promote those companies that have developed technology and or ideas with impact.
• The Institute intends to establish a grant scheme open to senior academics globally to support the creation and generation of high quality research.

Website - the key to the Institute's door

• This will become, in later incarnations, the focal point of the Institute, our showcase and the access point to our research repository, our events calendar and registration as well as entry and submission for the awards and grants outlined above.
• Aligned with the website which will be available on key digital platforms we will complement it with social media apps to create an effective interactive cluster and forum for a diverse set of communities across the academic and practitioner horizons.

Interdisciplinary Case Studies

• Case Studies
• As part of our research agenda and education platform, we plan to create a portfolio of case studies on all aspects of venture capitalism.
• These case studies will be interdisciplinary, both qualitative and quantitative, offering new and real insights to how innovation and venture is propagated and developed at the micro and macro levels. We hope to show success as well as failures to identifying the tipping points, optimising their respective pedagogy.

• Special Projects

Tech Parks

• A team combining Faculty from TAU and members from the Institute have undertaken first stage research into industrial and technical parks looking at primary, secondary and tertiary factors needed for success 
• Building the ecosystem for a sustainable solution involves bringing together a range of communities bound by key tenants, driving the initial focus, and an infrastructure shaped for the respective communities which facilitates interaction at multiple levels.

Workshops

• We plan to host and co-host workshops on the latest innovative technology and research; demonstrating how these techniques and insights can generate or increase the probability of sustainable ventures.

Coller Institute of Venture Club

• The Institute will create a club open to students from the leading university venture hubs and incubators, active corporate venturing practitioners and interested investors.

Coller Institute of Venture World Innovation Tour

• We will host an innovation tour comprising a cohort of leading academics and practitioners who will present in key centres for innovation to promote the spread and interaction of innovation hot spots.
