Welcome to the initial website for the Coller Institute of Venture. Founded in 2013, the Institute is housed within Tel Aviv University (TAU) and will have its official launch in Q1 2014.

The Coller Institute of Venture seeks to further the understanding of global venture capitalism by forging a stronger connection between academic research and the real business world. The Institute will foster collaborations between scholars, investors, policymakers, venture capitalists and high-tech professionals.

Board Members

Eli Talmor - Chair
Professor Eli Talmor

Eli Talmor is Professor at London Business School and founding Chairman of its Coller Institute of Private Equity as well as the Coller Institute of Venture at Tel Aviv University. He was previously a professor of finance at the University of California (UCLA and Irvine), Tel Aviv University and the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and B.Sc. (Cum Laude) from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology

Professor Talmor is the co-author of International Private Equity, broadly considered as the reference book of the private equity industry. He served on the board of Governors of London Business School and the advisory board of the African Venture Capital Association. In recent years he has been asked by the UK Parliament to provide a leading testimony at its high-profile hearings on private equity and to advise the UK Prime Ministerial office.

Eli is the chairperson of the Board of Coller Institute of Venture.

Jeremy Coller

Jeremy holds a BSc (Hons) in Management Sciences from the University of Manchester, UMIST; an MA in Philosophy from Sussex University; and a DiplĂ´me Cours de Civilisation from the Sorbonne. He attended Carmel College.
Jeremy is Executive Chairman and CIO and founder of Coller Capital. In 2012, he was recognised as one of the 20 most influential people in private equity over the last decade by Private Equity International (PEI), and by Real Deals magazines. He was also voted one of the most influential people in European financial markets and private equity by Financial News magazine. In 2009, Jeremy won PEI’s ‘Private Equity Leader’ award.
In 2011, Jeremy was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the London Business School. In 2013, he received an Honorary Doctorate from Tel Aviv University.

Jeremy is the founder of the Coller Institute of Venture.

Joseph (Yossi) Klafter
Prof. Joseph Klafter is widely recognized in his field, chemical physics. He completed his BSc and MSc in physics at Bar-Ilan University, and his PhD in chemistry at Tel Aviv University in 1978 under the supervision of Prof. Joshua Jortner. After post-doctoral studies in chemistry at MIT, he joined the research and engineering division of Exxon in the US, where he worked for eight years. He joined the TAU Raymond and Beverly Sackler School of Chemistry in 1987, and was promoted to full professor in 1989. From 1998 to 2003 he was the incumbent of the Gordon Chair in Chemistry, and from 2003 onward he has held the Heineman Chair of Physical Chemistry.

Prof. Klafter has published close to 400 scientific articles and edited 18 books. He is a member of the editorial boards of six scientific journals, and has been a member of the scientific committee of dozens of conferences.

Yossi is the President of Tel Aviv University, the host University for Coller Institute of Venture.

Asher Tishler 








Asher Tishler received his B.A. in Economics and Statistics (with honors) from the Hebrew University, Israel, and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. From 1976 he is a faculty member at the Faculty of Management at Tel Aviv University.

Professor Tishler's main research topics are focused on applied microeconomics, models of research and development, econometrics, energy economics and defense related issues. His articles were published in leading journals such as The Journal of Econometrics, Research Policy, Energy Journal, Energy Economics, Defence and Peace Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, Management Science, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, European Economic Review, Energy Policy, Strategic Management Journal, Operations Research, and more.

Asher is the Dean of the Recanati School of Management, the host Faculty for Coller Institute of Venture.

Executives 

Moshe Zviran - Academic Director and Head of the Institute

Prof. Moshe Zviran serves as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Management at TAU.  He is the incumbent of the Isaac Gilinski Chair of Entrepreneurship, Technology, Innovation and Management, and serves as the Chair of the MBA program in Management of Technology and Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MoTIE) and the Head of the Adams Institute for Information Technology.

He holds B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computer Science and M.Sc and Ph.D in Management, all from Tel Aviv University, Israel. His published works have appeared in leading academic journals including MIS Quarterly, Journal of MIS, Communications of the ACM, Information and Management, Computers & Security and other journals. He is also the author of Information Systems - From Theory to Practice (co-authored with Seev Neumann, published by Dyonon, 2001). Prof. Zviran serves as a consultant for a number of organizations and as a board member of several private and public companies.

Moshe is responsible for formulating and supervising the Institute's program of activities, setting its academic agenda and identify collaboration opportunities with leading academic and industry partners around the world.


Yesha Sivan - Executive Director
Yesha Sivan

Prof. Yesha Sivan is the Executive Director of the Coller Institute of Venture at Tel Aviv University Faculty of Management (http://www.collerinstitueofventure.org). He is professor of Management Information Systems (MIS) at the School of Management and Economy at the Tel-Aviv-Yaffo Academic College (http://is.mta.ac.il). He is also the founder of Metaverse Labs (MVL) - a leading think tank focusing on connecting virtual and real worlds. Sivan's professional experience includes developing and deploying innovative solutions for corporate, hi-tech, government, and defense environments (see for example: the Harvard 9-Keys for Knowledge Infrastructure). He published numerous papers in the areas of Strategy and IT, innovation, knowledge, 3D3C virtual worlds, and standards. Sivan received his doctorate from Harvard University. He has taught EMBA, MBA, engineering and design in the areas of strategic value of IT, the emergence of virtual worlds, and software development in virtual worlds.

Yesha is responsible for setting and implementing the strategic development at the Institute together with its platform infrastructure.


Ann Iveson - Senior International Fellow (London)
Ann Iveson

Ann was Executive Director at the London Coller Institute of Private Equity for the years (2008-2009)  and played a key role in defining and implementing many of the strategic initiatives and projects. She has extensive banking experience within the fields of credit, fixed income sales, derivatives and capital markets. She headed credit at CSFB and European Corporate Origination at BNP Paribas. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers and holds a BSc (Econ) from LSE and is a London Business School Sloan Fellow. She is Treasurer and on the Board of City Women Network and a Senior Advisor to the Coller Institute of Private Equity in London.

Ann is working on developing channels and connections to broaden the international footprint of Coller Institute of Venture.

Robyn Klingler Vidra - Senior Research Fellow (London)








Robyn Klingler Vidra has recently completed her PhD at the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE). Robyn's research interests focus on the role of government policy in building venture capital markets as a means to promote innovation and entrepreneurial clusters. She received her BA in Political Science from the University of Michigan and MSc and PhD in International Political Economy at the LSE. Robyn leads the World Economic Forum’s United Kingdom Executive Opinion Survey on global competitiveness and has led studies on technology clusters and development. She helps teach the LSE undergraduate summer school course on international political economy and is an instructor for LSE Enterprise executive education courses on capital markets, economic competitiveness and innovation. Her publications include peer reviewed journal articles on the development of venture capital markets in East Asia and how policy models transform as they diffuse.

Dr. Vidra is working as a Senior researcher in the Institute.

Yu (Zoe) Zhai - Research Fellow (Hong Kong)



Zoe was granted her B.A. degree in Chongqing Normal University with a major of Chinese Language and Literature. After three years in University of Macau, Zoe graduated with an M.A. degree in English Studies emphasizing on literature. Now she is a Ph.D candidate in Tel Aviv University, School of Cultural Studies. She is a high qualified and experienced translator in Venture Capital business in Israel.

Zoe is working as a researcher in the Institute.

Itai Asaf - Research Fellow

Itai was granted his B.A. degree with a major of Information Systems Management from the School of Management and Economy at Tel-Aviv-Yaffo Academic College, where he is now part of the school's academic team, working as a teaching assistant in Virtual Worlds, Strategic Value of IT and several other courses.
He is an entrepreneur, and runs a Start-up developing innovative kids' games, and also an expert on analyzing data and presenting it with smart visualizations.

Itai is working as a researcher in the institute.


Odeya pergament - Coordinator
Odeya was granted her B.A. degree in Social Science from the Academit Tel Aviv-Yaffo College and her MBA degree with a major of marketing from the Ono Academic College. Odeya worked as the administrative coordinator of the Information Systems Management program from the School of Management and Economy,  Academit Tel Aviv-Yafo College.

Odeya is CIV administrative coordinator.
