CIV2015HK: The Future of Venture
The Coller Institute of Venture at Tel Aviv University and Hong Kong Cyberport are proud to announce CIV2015HK: The Future of Venture, an annual international conference where academics and practitioners reflect and discuss the future of venture. By bringing together venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, institutional investors, prominent venture thought leaders, and policy makers, who share the goal of accelerating the pace by which innovation produces value, we will confront the issues from various perspectives.
CIV2015HK atmosphere is intended to be relaxed and intimate. The space and events will allow various opportunities for sharing, networking and 1-on-1 meetings.

| Michael Bruck, HK Leader Stanford Research Institute (SRI) Michael Bruck has over thirty years of experience in technology management and financing in Silicon Valley, Wall Street, China and Hong Kong. He currently represents SRI International (the Stanford Research Institute) in Hong Kong. SRI is a world-renowned Silicon Valley based research lab, which has created innovations such as the first computer mouse and Siri. Bruck has held senior positions at Intel Corporation, including Chief-of-Staff to the CEO and Founder, and General Manager of Intel China. He has set up and managed Private Equity funds in China and has been a strategic advisor to numerous start-ups in China and Hong Kong. Bruck holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Manchester. |

| Prof. Kalok Chan, Dean Chinese University of Hong Kong, Business School Professor Kalok Chan is the Dean of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School. Prof. Chan joined CUHK Business School from his previous role as Chair Professor of Finance and Acting Dean of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Business School. Prior to that, he was Head of HKUST’s Finance Department from 2003 to 2013, the founding director of the HKUST-NYU Stern Joint Master in Global Finance program, and had established the Value Partners Centre for Investing. He was associate professor of finance at Arizona State University prior to joining the HKUST. Prof. Chan obtained his B.S.Sc. in Economics from CUHK, and PhD in Finance from Ohio State University. As a leading scholar and a prominent researcher, Prof. Chan has had numerous publications in top ranked finance journals, and has been ranked as the top finance researcher in the Asia-Pacific region by the Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, most recently in 2011. His research interests focus on dynamics of asset prices, derivatives, market micro-structure, and international financial markets. Prof. Chan is active in contributing to the profession. He has been Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the HKIB Outstanding Financial Management Planner Awards since 2009. Prof. Chan was also the President of Asian Finance Association from 2008 to 2010, and has served as a member of a number of committees including the Risk Management Committee of Hong Kong Exchanges, HKSAR Advisory Committee of Human Resource Development (Financial Services), Hospital Authority Provident Fund Investment Committee, Hang Seng Index Advisory Committee and Hong Kong Housing Authority. |

| Dr. Jeffrey Chi, Managing Director Vickers Venture Partners (Chairman of the Singapore Venture Capital & Private Equity Association) Dr Chi has investments in China & SE Asia in online games, education, online travel, e-commerce and financial services. He is a member of the board of directors of Jing Jin Electric, Matchmove Pay, Alo7.com, Kuyun Interactive Technology, Cardvalue, Roomorama, Spicy Horse, Play Peli, California Intercontinental University, Chinaway and Tenfen Technology. He was formerly a board member of Cambridge REIT, Sunfun Info and UUCUN as well as an alternate director of the Asian Food Channel prior to their successful exits. Dr Chi was also involved in the exits/partial exits of UUCUN (trade sale, China), Sunfun Info (IPO TT:5278, Taiwan), Cambridge Real Estate (IPO SGX: J91U & Trade Sale, Singapore),, Real Time Gaming Asia (Trade Sale, Singapore), TWG Tea (Trade Sale, Singapore) and Asian Food Channel (Trade Sale, Singapore).Dr. Chi’s experience covers a variety of industries including information technology, healthcare and media. Formerly a corporate finance specialist with and Executive Director at Pegasus Capital, he has managed engagements for large and small clients in both the public and private sectors. Prior to Pegasus Capital, Dr. Chi was a senior consultant with the Monitor Group. Dr. Chi’s operational background includes seven years on the management team of an engineering group with operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, China and Indonesia. As its Managing Director, he led the group into the Enterprise 50 in 1997 in Singapore.Dr. Chi is a C.F.A. Charter holder and graduated from Cambridge University with 1st Class Honours in Engineering. He earned his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in organizational knowledge and information technology. |

| Jeremy Coller, Executive Chairman and CIO Coller Capital Jeremy holds a BSc (Hons) in Management Sciences from the University of Manchester, UMIST; an MA in Philosophy from Sussex University; and a Diplôme Cours de Civilisation from the Sorbonne. He attended Carmel College. Jeremy is Executive Chairman and CIO and founder of Coller Capital. In 2012, he was recognised as one of the 20 most influential people in private equity over the last decade by Private Equity International (PEI), and by Real Deals magazines. He was also voted one of the most influential people in European financial markets and private equity by Financial News magazine. In 2009, Jeremy won PEI’s ‘Private Equity Leader’ award. In 2011, Jeremy was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the London Business School. In 2013, he received an Honorary Doctorate from Tel Aviv University. Jeremy is the founder of the Coller Institute of Venture. |

| Dr. Marta K. Dowejko The Chinese University of Hong Kong Dr. Marta K. Dowejko received her doctoral degree in management from the University of Hong Kong, where she also served as manager and senior researcher of the Centre for Asian Entrepreneurship and Business Values and taught in the Global Executive MBA program. She has developed multiple teaching case studies on Hong Kong based companies and published articles and book chapters on entrepreneurship topics. Dr. Dowejko also mentored numerous business startups and co-founded a successful business in Hong Kong. She has gained her professional experience in Poland, Belgium, Hong Kong, and Mainland China. Her research interests include entrepreneurial networks and strategic entrepreneurship. Currently, Dr. Dowejko is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Entrepreneurship at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her most recent policy research on the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Hong Kong was the first comprehensive study to address the opportunities and challenges of Hong Kong as Asia’s entrepreneurship hub and it was well received by local and international media, policymakers, and industry associations of Hong Kong. |

| Mounir Guen, CEO MVision Mounir Guen founded MVision in 2001. He is a veteran fundraising specialist, advisor and manager, with 30 years of experience in the industry during which he has worked on over 300 General Partnership funds. He has led MVision to the point where it is now one of the leading alternative asset capital raising firms in the world. Selected as one of Private Equity’s 100 most influential personalities of the decade in 2011 by PEI, Mounir is on the EMPEA Investor Relations and Marketing Steering Committee and is a member of the NYU President’s Global Council and the Liberal Studies Dean’s Council. He is on the faculty of London Business School, being honoured with the title of Executive Fellow of the Accounting Department in 2014. Previously Mounir spent 13 years at Merrill Lynch where he was a Managing Director and was responsible for building up the international non-US business, both on the General Partner and Investor level. |

| Raz Heiferman, Government ICT Authority Prime Minister’s Office Government of Israel Mr Raz Heiferman is the Shared Services Division Manager of the Government ICT Authority, Prime Minister’s Office, for the last 2.5 years. The division develops and maintains cross ministry applications, services and platforms. Mr Heiferman was previously the VP of Information Systems of Direct Insurance for six years, VP of Information Technology of Bezeq (the Israel Telecom Corporations), VP and Division Manager of one of the largest Israeli software houses and some more senior positions.Mr Heiferman teaches “IT Strategy” at Ono Academic College on their MBA program and “The Strategic Value of Digital Technologies” at the CIO’s advanced course offered by the Technion continued studies. He taught together with Prof. Yesha Sivan on the EMBA program of the Bar Ilan University. He is the author of six textbooks on Data Bases and Data Warehouses and many articles published in the Israeli professional magazines. He co-authored with Prof. Yesha Sivan the article “Master of Six Digital Transformations” published by Cutter Consortium.Mr Heiferman holds an MBA and BA in Economics and Statistics, both from the Hebrew University Jerusalem and is a certified Systems Analyst. |

| Sagi Karni, Consul General of Israel in Hong Kong Consul General Sagi Karni joined the Israeli Foreign Service in 1995, and served in the Israeli Embassies in Beijing, Oslo as Deputy Consul General and member of the Israeli delegation to the EU in Brussels. Prior to assuming the post as Israel Consul General in Hong Kong he served as Ambassador in Angola and Mozambique. CG Karni specializes in energy politics and served as an adviser to the Minister of Energy and Water Resources. He is a graduate of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (BSc), as well as the Tel-Aviv University (MA). |

| Herman LAM, CEO Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited Mr Herman LAM joined the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited as the Chief Executive Officer in March 2010. As the CEO of Cyberport, Mr Lam is responsible for leading, representing and administering the company as well as playing a prominent role in promoting and implementing Cyberport’s public mission strategies.Within the public mission arena, Mr Lam sets the initiatives for comprehensive programmes which assist the development of Hong Kong as a hub for innovation and trade in ICT, and encourage the development and upgrading of ICT skills and resources in the wider community of Hong Kong.Mr Lam is also active in community affairs and industry development, serving a number of statutory bodies such as the Digital 21 Strategy Advisory Committee; Industry Facilitation Task Force; the Hong Kong Trade Development Council ICT Services Advisory Committee; the Hong Kong ICT Awards Steering Committee; Honorary Advisor of the Hong Kong Computer Society; the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association; Project Advisory Committee of the Wireless Services Value Chain Cooperation Platform in the Pearl River Delta; the Digital Solidarity Fund Committee; the Departmental Advisory Committee for the Department of Computer Science of City University of Hong Kong; the Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award Scheme Administration Committee; the Information Technology Management Committee of the Hong Kong Management Association and the Advisory Board for the Department of Computer Science & Engineering of Chinese University of Hong Kong. | Prof. Manhong Mannie Liu, FEDS – The Chinese Science Academy Director, Venture Capital Research Group at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Research Center on Fictitious Economy and Data Science (FEDS); Professor, Renmin University of China; Board Member, China Venture Capital Research Institute; Editor in Chief, China Venture Capital Journal; Vice Dean, Beijing EDUI Technology Research Institute; Founder and Honorary Chair of China Business Angels Association; Vice Chair, Ecological Development Union International; Board member, World Business Angels Association; and Board director, Chief Group Hong Kong. Professor Liu has authored numerous publications on angel investing. Her book Angel Investment and Private Capital (2003, in Chinese) is considered the first such book in China. Professor Liu is also considered one of the pioneers in China’s venture capital research field. Her book Venture Capital: Innovation and Finance (in Chinese, Renmin University Press, 1998) was one of the first venture capital books to systemically introduce the venture capital concept in China and served as a guide for many Chinese first-generation venture capitalists. Professor Liu received her Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1994, prior to her joined the faculty at Renmin University, she has also worked as research faculty at Harvard University. |

| Tim Lafferty, Chief Operating Officer Mawsonia Tim Lafferty is the Chief Operating Officer of Mawsonia, a publishing, data and events company founded in 2010 which publishes three magazines, Global Corporate Venturing (GCV), Global University Venturing (GUV) and Global Government Venturing (GGV). GCV is the only magazine dedicated to writing about large companies that take minority equity stakes in entrepreneurial businesses. Similarly, GUV covers universities around the world that take equity stakes in their own spinouts, an increasingly important development in the funding of start-ups. GGV writes about how governments support their innovation ecosystems. Mawsonia has the best data available on global venture deals among corporates, universities and governments and holds internationally renowned conferences and awards. Tim has worked in media for over twenty years. Prior to Mawsonia, Tim was the Director of Marketing and Product Sales for Dow Jones in Europe overseeing brands including The Wall Street Journal, Financial News and Private Equity News. Previously he held senior roles at BusinessWeek and Readers’ Digest following a ten year career as an officer in the Royal Navy. He is based in Mawsonia’s head office in London. |

| Prof. Yesha Sivan, Executive Director Coller Institute of Venture Prof. Yesha Sivan is the Executive Director of the Coller Institute of Venture at Tel Aviv University Faculty of Management (http://www.collerinstitueofventure.org). He is professor of Management Information Systems (MIS) at the School of Management and Economy at the Tel-Aviv-Yaffo Academic College (http://is.mta.ac.il). He is also the founder of Metaverse Labs (MVL) – a leading think tank focusing on connecting virtual and real worlds. Sivan’s professional experience includes developing and deploying innovative solutions for corporate, hi-tech, government, and defense environments (see for example: the Harvard 9-Keys for Knowledge Infrastructure). He published numerous papers in the areas of Strategy and IT, innovation, knowledge, 3D3C virtual worlds, and standards. Sivan received his doctorate from Harvard University. He has taught EMBA, MBA, engineering and design in the areas of strategic value of IT, the emergence of virtual worlds, and software development in virtual worlds. | Prof. Eli Talmor, Professor London Business School Eli Talmor is Professor at London Business School and founder of its Coller Institute of Private Equity as well as the Coller Institute of Venture at Tel Aviv University. He was previously a professor of finance at the University of California (UCLA and Irvine), Tel Aviv University and the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and B.Sc. (Cum Laude) from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Professor Talmor is the co-author of International Private Equity, broadly considered as the reference book of the private equity industry. He served on the board of Governors of London Business School and the advisory board of the African Venture Capital Association. In recent years he has been asked by the UK Parliament to provide a leading testimony at its high-profile hearings on private equity and to advise the UK Prime Ministerial office. |

| Dr. Robyn Klingler Vidra, Lecturer King’s College London Robyn Klingler-Vidra joins King’s College London in the Department of European & International Studies as a Lecturer for the 2014-2015 academic year. Most recently, Robyn served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Coller Institute of Venture at Tel Aviv University where she was the Associate Editor of Venture Findings. Robyn‟s research interests focus on the role of government policy in building venture capital markets as a means to promote innovation and entrepreneurial clusters. Robyn leads the World Economic Forum‟s United Kingdom Executive Opinion Survey on global competitiveness and has led studies on economic growth, technology clusters and development. Her publications include peer reviewed journal articles on the development of venture capital markets in East Asia and how policy models transform as they diffuse. Robyn received her MSc and PhD in International Political Economy at the London School of Economics & Political Science and her BA in Political Science from the University of Michigan. Dr. Vidra is working as a Senior researcher in the Institute. |

| Nicholas Yang, Advisor to the Chief Executive on Innovation and Technology The Government of The HKSAR Mr Yang graduated from the California Institute of Technology in the United States in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics, followed by a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration degree from Stanford University in 1978 and 1982 respectively. Mr Yang worked as a senior design engineer for Intel Corporation in 1978 and subsequently as a strategic management consultant for Bain & Company. He returned to Hong Kong in 1983 and pursued his career as the Executive Director and Deputy Group Managing Director of Shell Electric Mfg. (Holdings) Limited. He became senior consultant and director of several venture capital and private equity investment firms in 2002. Mr Yang was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited in 2003. He was the Executive Vice President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 2010 to February 2015. In March 2015, Mr Yang joined the Hong Kong SAR Government, serving as Advisor to the Chief Executive on Innovation and Technology, and Non-Official Member of the Executive Council. |

| Ir Allen Yeung, Government Chief Information Officer The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Ir Allen Yeung has extensive experience in the ICT field. He held BSEE from the University of Texas at Austin, MSEE from Purdue University and Executive MBA from HKUST-Kellogg Northwestern University. As GCIO, his responsibilities include formulating ICT policies and strategies; leading the E-government programmes; promoting and developing ICT industry as key business and economy driver; and bridging the digital divide. Prior to joining the Government in July 2015, Ir Yeung was the Chief Corporate Development Officer of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. Ir Yeung started his career in 1987 in the Silicon Valley, working for many hi-tech companies. In 1995, he relocated to Hong Kong to further his career development, and served in several senior management positions for multinational enterprises and Hong Kong listed companies. Ir Yeung has contributed significantly in promoting and developing the innovation and technology industry in Hong Kong and the region. He has served on many councils and advisory committees in the ICT industry associations, business angel networks, engineer professional bodies, as well as educational institutions. |

Venture Research Workshop

The Venture Research Workshop will focus on challenges and gaps in venture research, research directions and methods. The purpose of the workshop is to share and discuss the latest research on venture, and to propose innovative research projects / areas of research. The workshop encourages collaboration opportunities among researchers and with the Coller Institute of Venture.
The format will include in-depth presentations by three leading researchers in the field (Coller 2015 Award recipients).
Each presentation will be following by a joint discussion.
The workshop is open to researchers and reflective practitioners. Registration is subject to approval.
Active participants of the workshop are invited to join the main event on 6-Nov-2015.
